In November 2023 representatives from Shipping, logistics and real estate convened at the MIT Climate and Sustainability Consortium (MCSC) to discuss critical barriers to fleet de-carbonisation and opportunities to overcome them.
The subsequent report authored by MIT, Prologis and Accenture identified key barriers facing fleets as follows:
Decision paralysis: The sheer enormity of solutions available to fleets, the many factors which influence the suitability of each, and the sheer novelty of it all is dazzling. The rapid pace of change of technologies in the space doesn’t help either.
Electrification falls outside core expertise: Managing charging infrastructure is generally outside the core expertise of fleet operators. The complexity of energy management makes it difficult for them to approach projects like this on their own and the financial and operational risks involved leave them reluctant to even try.
Success is entirely dependent on collaboration: Decarbonised fleets can only come from meaningful collaboration across a broad eco system, including fleet operators, OEMs infrastructure providers, government agencies and electric utilities.
So to de-carbonise successfully, fleet operators need to be able to:
And if they do nothing, they get left behind.
Fast forward to 2025 and these barriers are even stronger. TPS has a powerful solution which is breaking them down for leading global fleets.
The power of foresight: Our VELOX Ultra-Rapid DC chargers contain advanced power electronics compatible with battery outputs from 150 to 1,250 V. They support all major charging standards including MCS and have bi-directional V2X functionality. With up to 1.2 MW capacity and modular design, they adapt to the needs of your fleet and are seamlessly upgradeable.
Power de-risked: VELOX expandable configuration integrates easily with our game changing SMART FLEET DC Grid, so you can add battery storage, embedded generation, and additional chargers as you need. Developed in direct collaboration with fleet stakeholders including Veolia, Prologis and Volvo Trucks, SMART FLEET is also shaped by our decades’ long partnerships with network operators, meaning we’re in a unique position to devise the perfect solution right through from Grid connection Grid connection to charging configuration.
Power understood: We understand the complete power network structure, so our solutions for customers become a reality for them quickly. After working closely for many years with stakeholders like Ofgem, UK Power Networks and Northern Powergrid, we’re recognised and trusted in this sector. They know a TPS solution will sync perfectly with their infrastructure, so there’s no need for time consuming scrutiny and investigation before it can go ahead.
For these reasons – and many more- fleet operators are turning to TPS to get them to Net Zero ahead of their competitors.
